So did not one 060/233 version go for close to 1000 euros back in spring/late winter on the bay?

Yes a SAM make more sense, but lots of 68k apps wont work on a NG platform (OS4). So if you want to be able to run a mix of 68k/PPC apps a classic PPC is best option.
