Just a dumb question (surprise, surprise from me):

If your PC happens to be the the one that finds THE signal when happily crunching away, do you think SETI would tell you?

Would you then be presented with an "I found ET" certificate?

I personally don't agree that SETI is a waste of time, but I do agree that we should ALL be using our spare CPU capacity to be doing something useful.  I think one of the Cancer charities has a SETI-like number cruncher - can anyone confirm?

With so many corporae mainframe systems etc seemingly doing little apart from housekeeping outside office hours it would be nice to see everyone running SETI-alike progs.  It's not as if the extra CPU time used is going to break the bank....
