It's been happening for years, but I guess now more and more kids are able to report their teachers to the authorities?

There's been several cases over here of female teachers having inappropriate relationships with male students.  There's still an inequality in society re adult women committing "statutory rape", as the teacher is less likely to be judged harshly than if it were a male teacher.  Either way, it's an abuse of trust and should be dealt with accordingly.

7%...  Oh jeez...  That's twenty one kids out of my entire last school year, and proportinally means that at least four would have been good friends...

What exactly is defined by "sexual misconduct"?

I have actually TWO comments on this subject.

Here's my first thought:

Same here. It's a whole mindset that it seems all western cultures have. People think Well the boy must have enjoyed it. Well yeah, maybe a girl would have too. It really should be treated the same accross the board and it isn't. Whether they enjoyed it or not doesn't matter. Adults certainly should not be taking advantage of kids under any circumstances.

Yeah, adolescent males are much more aware of the physical act of love and adolescent girls tend to be more attuned to the emotional.  However, if someone's taken advantage of and damaged emotionally, the net result is still the same.

Being completely honest, if one of my mates had been bedded by a female teacher at 14 he'd have received hero worship.  If it were a female who'd been seduced by a male teacher, they'd be instantly stigmatised themselves by their peer group.

Here's my second thought on the subject:

Where the hell were these teachers when I was in school! :lol:

Haha!  At fourteen my one greatest wish was to be seduced by a very attractive woman say ten years my senior...  But amongst the teaching staff  at my secondary school, candidates were lacking :-)

However, from my own perspective I was also highly sensitive to the emotional side of things too and being seduced and then discarded by a predatory female teacher would have done me untold emotional damage...

My own first love at the tender age of sixteen was traumatic enough, believe me.

What a truly moving love story about an adolescent Matt's love affair with his laundry...  I can see it in a muscial now  (cue melody to "Me and My Girl")

A comforting hug to all of you...  My own adolescence and childhood was pretty harsh, I was a victim of bullying to a very severe degree but found the only way to cope was to turn everything in on myself and change me for the benefit of those who sought to torment me.  I also had to deal with a father who regarded children as little more than an inconvenience at best, and a dictatorial monster at worst.

For a while the facade worked well, but after a few years the cracks started to appear and by my late teens I was an empty shell, living in denial of my own experiences and I eventually reached critical mass so to speak and the end results live with me to this very day.

However, over the years I've learned much about myself and human nature, to speak up for the underdog, to face fears and most profoundly I've learned the power of forgiveness.  I also have a huge problem dealing with the situation whenever my two nieces fight or express any violent tendancies.

@mdma,

I found exercise for me was a tremendous tonic.  When I'm stressed and/or pissed off with someone I find myself reaching for the treadmill before I reach for a beer.
