It not only depends on the CPU you use but also whether you use a buffered IDE interface or not.

My old system had a Squirrel CD ROM and one HDD plumbed in via the IDE header.  Attempting to run ADoom without tinkering with the Addbuffers command usually resulted in waiting 8 minutes or so for the game to load - not ideal so I wrote a script for ADoom that set the correct parameters first before loading the game.

Fitting an IDE buffered interface sorted out the addbuffers issues for me, I've never had to bother with them since.

That's quite interesting, considering the fact the buffering in the interface has nothing to do with memory buffers.

Pass on that one Piru!  All I know is that after fitting my IDE interface, I've never had to alter the buffers manually in order to get anything to load faster.

If it isn't anything to do with memory buffers, then what could it be?

Well, perhaps you just entered the correct buffer value for the partition in HDToolBox?

Pass, I haven't altered any of the buffer values in HD Toolbox.  It's remained the same since I upgraded to OS3.9.
