CD32 doesn't boot, no video, dim power led - psu buzzing noise?
« on: September 06, 2019, 09:38:40 PM »
Hi all,
CD32 was working fine, but.... it has getting more and more temperamental. It'd crash to a black screen, no video output, and the power light would be dim.
could usually remedy initally with a reset, then it came to need a power off and back on to come back to life.

now it won't boot at all. the power light is dim, no screen output on power on, but the psu is making a quiet buzzing noise i've not really noticed till i started trying to find what's wrong.
i have plugged an A4k keyboard into the aux port to see if there are any caps flashes, but nothing. caps lock turns on and off when pressed like normal.

it's not been recapped, or put in the loft/garage - has always lived in the house since i bought it in 1993.

any help or advice to remedy?
Many thanks in advance

Thanks, i did suspect as much. i've ordered a 4pin din to molex adapter from amigakit to double check.
i've measured the volts across the pins on the PSU i have, and it's 5.63 volts on the 5v line, and 11.87 on the 12v. it doesn't seem to spike on power on, as i've heard that the 5volt line can jump to 8volts before settling down to where it should be - if that doesn't sound worrying enough!

no idea whats happened. But since the molex to 4pin din power adapter arrived from amigakit, it seems to have wanted to play ball since. As it's been as reliable as you like on the standard PSU. i've not actually tested running the molex adapter at all yet.

though i am investigating decent mains to molex PSU options if only to not kill anything in the longer term...

thanks for your time and help though :)

of course i bet as soon as i've typed this and submitted it, i'll go to fire it up and get nothing!
i'll keep the re-cap in mind though! and defo figure out a decent PSU if the TF360 ever comes to public release. :D
