i've used a six button pad with my A500 for years with no modification... maybe i just got lucky?  :-? but a Cd32 pad will work fine with all other amiga's. just get a copy of lowlevel.library to allow games that can understand  cd32 pads to be able to use all the extra buttons.
i use a playstation to CD32/amiga adapter on my a1200. and i've only got one honeybee CD32 pad left :-( i had four at somepoint. no idea where they've gone...

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

speaking from personal preference, i found the sega 3 and 6 button pads to be much more comfortable than the cd32 pads, or even the playstation pads...
