USB Ethernet issues
« on: May 13, 2008, 10:05:27 AM »
Hi all, me again :-D *collective groan*

i know this is a bit of a long shot but was wondering if anyone had expirenced anything like this....

i plugged a USB2Ethernet dongle into my subway card (Amtech 8515 chipset) which duely got attached to the pegasus.class. all well and good so far, configured genesis to use the usbpegasus.device for its network, and everything is fine, can ping out, can surf the web (to a limited degree).

trouble is, the whole machine is then so slow! as soon as the TCP/IP stack is active and using the USB ethernet, even opening a window is monumentally slow. the icons don't load as fast as from floppy disk. you can almost watch it redraw the window border...

i've tried using AmigaKit's EasyNet, to see if that made a difference, but i can't get it to pick up the usbpegasus.device even after modifying the config files in the "db" directory.

i don't know if i'm asking too much to run a TCP stack over a USB stack on a subway device. i don't care if i get less than 200KB/s, as thats pretty much the most i get out my broadband anyway, just want something faster than "parnet" to multiple machines...

here's the config:-
A500 rev5 mobo, 3.1 rom, OS3.9 - no boing bags, GVP A530 40Mhz EC030+882, 4Gb compact flash on CF2IDE and IDE2scsi bridge cards, 8MB 32bit(?) fast, half meg chip, half meg 'slow' fast, clockport adapter, subwayusb, and the Amtech8515 usb2ethernet dongle.

many thanks  :-)

(on a side note, anyone got any ideas why sysinfo rates my 40Mhz 030 at 4.5 mips? surely it should turn over at least 7, if a 50Mhz nearly hits 10?)

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD
