Found abandoned A1200 project
« on: September 24, 2015, 01:54:27 PM »
I recently visited a kind of club where there are lots of making and modifying things going on. It may be best not to mention here the name of the place.

People were rebuilding a workstation, installing Mac OSX and Windows onto it, doing soldering, there was a monitor updating in real time showing times of the next buses from the nearest stop, projects containing Raspberry Pi computers, etc.

I was surprised to find an Amiga A1200 on a shelf surrounded by some devices I didn't recognise. During a tour, it was pointed out that this was an abandoned project based round the game IK+. The idea was a new way to play the game using touch sensitive inputs. This could be touch sensitive screens, or some other device enabling the players to actually do moves similar to in the game.

I asked to see more, then the A1200 was turned on, two small LCD screens connected via phono plugs came on, displaying the Workbench screen and autobooted into WHDload. There was no sign of a mouse. WHDload went straight into the game IK+.

I hope to persuade the people there to let me take the Amiga A1200, complete with some kind of video adapter down off the shelf and do something with it, or even continue the project. I know that another Amiga owner is a member of that club and while I was there someone else mentioned the game "Worms on the Amiga"!

Apart from this I asked if there were any Amiga compatible displays, explaining what was compatible. I may take my own Amiga A1200 down to this venue, where I could plug it into a modern LCD TV with a SCART socket.

Can anyone on here suggest how to continue this project? I'd also like some suggestions about what kind of adaptor has been used to connect to the two LCD screens. It's all been put up onto a shelf. The Amiga A1200 itself is at roughly head height, making it all difficult to see.

I forgot to mention that there is a camera with the Amiga A1200. I think the LCD screens are the type you described.

Unfortunately, I can't tell where you are from your profile. Obviously, my profile says clearly that I'm in London.

I wonder how far is "too far". Here in London, lots of people keep claiming that other parts of London are "too far" away from them. They often mean it's not on the tube network, or outside an imaginary boundary defining "central London".
