Genesi ODW & Hewlett Packard
« on: April 23, 2004, 02:06:45 PM »
Hello
On Ann.lu and Morphzone, there is a news about HP support for Genesi "Open Desktop Workstation" standard.
I cannot find any information about ODW on HP Website.

What is the meaning of this news?
1. Will HP re-sell Genesi pegasos boards?
2. Will Genesi re-sell HP software / peripherals (printers, scanners, storage) etc?
3. Will HP use PowerPC CPU on their future products?
4. Does HP plan to buy Freescale / Motorola IC division?
5. Does HP plan to offer some combo offer with HP server + Genesi Pegasos Workstation?
6. Does HP plan to port their HP-UX to Pegasos boards?
7. Why HP did not mention the news on their website?

Thank's.

Hello
HP is actively promoting V-Dragon CPU (Transmeta CPU + Chinese Language Processor) in Asia. They also use Transmeta CPU in Tablet PC.

If Mr Buck is clever, perhaps he can persuade HP to promote Genesi ODW on its HP + (Plus) advertising campaign (similar to Dragon-V CPU).

Perhaps HP is pissed off by Intel plan to promote 64 bit X86, and abandoning Itanium 64 bit (HP-Intel joint project).

Another possibility: HP plan to introduce game console based on PowerPC. Because Sony and MS use PowerPC for their future consoles, perhaps HP will use similar CPU. HP is expanding its product line, including TV, Copier, MP3 players, camera etc.

Several years ago, I had similar idea about bundling SONY monitor, CD/DVD drive, Video Camera, PDA, Stereos etc with AmigaOne or AmigaDE, because SONY VC is the main sponsor behind Intent/OCPA. Unfortunately there is no response from both SONY and Amiga Inc.
