Multiple chipset IC in 1 board.
« on: May 01, 2003, 10:44:50 AM »
Hello
Recently AMD launched its 64 bit Opteron CPU that support up to 8-way SMP. There is an interesting method to implement SMP: multiple Dual CPU chipset in a single motherboard /system.

(ie: 4 CPU + 2 chipset, 6 CPU + 3 chipset etc)

Opteron Chipset

"Typically, two-, four- and eight-processor servers all use different types of chipsets. The more processors a server has, the more difficult it is to develop a chipset.
By contrast, the chipset is the same for all Opteron chipsets. A four-processor server, in other words, is just two twos linked together. "

Is it possible to put multi chipset on a single board in the future version of MAI Logic or IBM 970 chipset?
