<Tap Tap> Is this thing on?
« on: October 28, 2012, 04:21:16 PM »
Greetings from deep dark Devon where men are men and sheep walk funny.....

Just re-installed myself back into the Amiga world after several years on the Dark Side of PC land - All thanks to the kind donation of 2 knackered 1200's (One now revived) and an A4000 with serious memory loss (It can't find Chip RAM at all!)

Used to run SWAUG many moons ago (South West Amiga Users Group) and was active until the very very end of the vanilla wedge brigade so it's nice to get back to using a real computer again for a change!

Any advice on A4000 hardware issues most welcome BTW! - And I remember most of the rest of it, but will gladly take a pointer or two when needed!

Anyway, that's me - Hope to speak with you all soon!
To go forward you must first back-up!

A4000 - In renovation
A1200 - 36Gb HD 2Mb Chip / 8Mb Fast
A1200 - In Pieces (Soon to be working again!)
A600 - R.I.P - Died whilst installing WB2!

AROS PC - AMD 2Ghz (SLOW But FAAST!)

PC - Phenon Triple core server - Just for media!

Thanks guys - The 4000 is slated for surgery later today once I clear the workbench (Pun intended) of those nasty PC hybrid laptop thingies that people keep bringing me.

I have no doubt I will be seeking the advice of the sage souls here for capacitor and battery fixes having read some of the other posts regarding 4000 issues so be warned, if you sound like you know what you're doing, I'll probably be in your inbox at some point! I love a good session with the solder gun :flame:

One of my A1200's has a DF0: fault, but I'm reasonably sure I can sort that out and will then have at least one spare 1200 I'll be looking to swap out for one of those A600 thingies, just so I have the whole set you understand!

Quick word about my personal life, I'm a PC technician working for myself in paignton, company name is Phoenix Computers on Clifton road and would welcome visits from any/all Amigans in my locale - Have an ENORMOUS library of Amiga software for plundering etc if anyone needs anything!

Finally, cheers for the welcome and the advice - No doubt I'll be hanging around to bug some of you in the near future!

I shall refrain from the use of the solder gun.... really I will!

I have a couple of thermo-controlled irons so no worries there, just posted a thread about the old girl (A4000) as she appears to have totally died this morning! (Not even a purple disky screen!)
