Especially as they seem to totally gone away from the fact that  the originals despite being games were a comment on the realities of war.

I agree.  As much as its was not a good as originals.  Playing Worms3D on the gamecube was fun and did bring something to the game as you had now think in 3d so made it more of a challenge
