So what's the deal with OS3.9 BB2?
« on: May 15, 2003, 10:00:34 AM »
I've just upgraded to OS3.9 and installed BB1. On these forums I've read that plenty of people are using OS3.9 with BB2, so I did a Google search and downloaded it from Haage&Partner.

I've yet to install it because the google search also found some message boards with vague references to problems with BB2, and I am assuming that this is why BB2 cannot be downloaded from the official Amiga site.

Can anyone tell me what problems exist with BB2, and if there is anything I have do whilst installing BB2 to avoid these problems?

Thanks!
Steve.

Found these on Aminet:

Update Os 3.9 BB2 Shell to 45.11:
"This patch fixes some bugs of the 45.7 shell that was published with BB2."

Unofficial patch for the 45.13 FastFileSystem (3.9 BB2):
"The FastFileSystem shipped in OS 3.9 BB2 (V45.13) has a bug in the disk validator code. A memory buffer that is allocated for the validation is later freed with a wrong smaller size, causing a memory leak as well as a mismatched FreeMem() report from debugging tools like MuGuardianAngel and MungWall."

...I'm starting to get the impression that BB2 was released in a hurry and/or untested.

Oh, and to answer elendil's question:
(from the H&P wesbite):
"Boing Bag 3.9-2 contains many bug fixes, small enhancement and new features in the areas multimedia (AMPlifier, PlayCD, sound datatype), shell, Workbench (Find, AsyncWB, UnArc, XAD v10), ReAction and harddisk support."
