Haven't followed the full thread, but the boot-device is determined by the bootpri-parameter.
Herwego:
1. Reset Amiga and hold both mousebuttons
2. in the early-startup-menu check which device has the highest boot-pri (ignoring DF0:)
3. boot into workbench
4. start HDToolBox or similar and change the bootpri of the current boot-partition to 0
5. switch to the new boot-partition and set boot-pri to something between 1 and bootpri-DF0: (AFAIR 10 is a good number here, but it's been years since I used a classic).
6. save to disk
