4GB is the "easy" limit. To use more you'd need Workbench 3.5 or 3.9, or PFS / SFS, or one of the many other ways to add large drive support.
ProTip: keep your SYS: partition at the very beginning and under 500MB or so for best compatibility with older software. Good luck, have fun!
