My .02 cents, you're making this a lot harder for yourself than it needs to be if you stick with 3.1.

3.9 + the BB updates + PFS3-AIO is the way to go if you want large hard drive support.

3.1 and 3.9 both include device drivers (CD0 and the required file system)  for optical drives!

Are you using a 3.9 emergency boot floppy? Just going out on a limb, try deleting the screenmode.prefs file off there. Without that file it should default to a NTSC or PAL high res screenmode.

I have installed OS3.9 in a sub-dir on DH1 but I do not see the Prefs drawer in the main root drive.? I can navigate to the Prefs drawer and set the Prefs to 600x400 but nothing else? I also don't know how to re-config my Picasso Card? Should I just reinstall the Picasso Driver?

Not sure I understand the first part of this question.  If you've installed Workbench 3.9 in a subdirectory, you should be able to locate all of its folders (including Prefs) in that same directory.  It won't overwrite what you have stored on DH0: if you've told it to install on DH1:...

For the 2nd part, I'd just reinstall the latest version of P96.  That's probably the fastest, cleanest way.  Good luck!
