Sounds like bad cables (there used to be a seller offering new ones on ebay?).  Another common problem is cold solder joints on the connectors inside.

Edit:  Test it with the composite input.  Colors okay that way?  Then you know it's just the D-Sub or DIN connector (depending on which model of 1084 you have).

DB23-f to DIN6.  Did you look at the links I posted earlier?  :lol:
