Probably not the ideal way of doing it, but if I were you I'd reinstall your SCSI controller (like you said) and try to boot off that, and configure the Buddha & TrueIDE to work as slave devices, first. You know, just see if you're able to get them working at all?
You could always install an OS to them that way, also, then just bump up the boot priority once they're working so they boot first instead of your SCSI controller.
