I don't know anything about installing a hard drive in an X1000, but working in various technical support capacities for 30 years, I would recommend the following: When you say "it is just not working", could you be more specific? What exactly is it doing, and/or not doing? Are you getting any error messages? You have no idea how many times these simple questions will lead to more helpful advice!
