Thylacine USB
« on: October 31, 2013, 05:04:02 AM »
Any Thylacine USB owners on here? I got one a little while back and am finally trying to get it working. I've got the card installed (had to swap it around to get it to "play nice" with my AD516), Posideon software installed, I can go to the "Controllers" tab, add the thylacine.device, toggle it to "Online", get the "hub with 1 port successfully configured" message, but as soon as I plug in any USB device (have tried generic mice & keyboards so far) my Amiga completely locks up. Ocassionally the mouse pointer will move across the screen, but it's as if I'm getting 100% CPU utilization. Unplugging the device has no effect, Amiga stays frozen. Any ideas? Was thinking maybe I should post a video to demonstrate this better, but figured I'd ask first. ;) Thanks!

Edit: card shows up fine and "Working" under Early Startup, Scout, WhichAmiga, etc., so I think it's working fine, just a config issue somewhere?

This is on your A2000? I don't think it'll be much help, but I had virtually identical problems with my A2000 and an Algor Pro. Ended up giving up on USB. I'm also running an AD516 (and Indivision, and 2MB Chip). I wonder if there's something about USB/Poseidon and some of our hardware that they don't like each other?

Hummm, we have almost identical hardware.  Think I'll try it with the AD516 removed and see if that makes a difference.  Fingers crossed!

Probably need to plug in the device, boot up, and keep your fingers crossed.

I've got the USB stack set to run on boot, but if I try to boot with a USB device plugged in it gets about as far as the Workbench title bar loading then freezes up.  If I boot with no device plugged in it boots fine (takes a little longer, and have a little less free memory, so I know the stack is running) but as soon as I plug in any device it's freeze-city.

No difference with the AD516 removed.  Boots fine, but as soon as a USB device is plugged in it freezes up.  (same if you try booting with a device inserted)    I'll try Darrin's suggestion next...

I've contacted the builder of the card, since he's sold at least 50-60 of these over on Amibay I'm hoping he can assist. Haven't had a chance to try with a clean 3.1 install yet, but I'll just post my system specs here for reference or for anyone who comes across this thread in the future.

(Note - WhichAmiga reports Chip mem wonky because of TLSFmem patch I'm running)

My system specs are as follows:
- Amiga 2000, Rev. 6.3, full ECS. Motherboard works fine except for minor clock issues
- 3.1 Kickstart, 3.9 Workbench with Boing Bags 1-4
- GVP GeForce 040, 33MHz, 16MB Fast, 2MB Chip
- Indivision ECS
- Sunrize AD516 sound card (I've tried with and without the sound card installed)
- Mechware SCSI card reader booting off CF cards for hard drives

I'm wondering if it's an issue with A2000 only, or with A2000 Buster? It seems like most people use them in A3000/4000. I've tried card in a couple different slots, no difference. Everything works fine until I plug in a USB device (or try booting with one plugged in) then it locks up like it's getting 100% CPU utilization.

Just to bump this old thread of mine, I finally got around to digging out a spare CF card and formatting it with nothing but Workbench 3.1, MUI, and the Poseidon USB stack. Booting off that I was able to get a generic USB keyboard to work, but not a mouse. The mouse was detected but if I tried to move it the pointer would just disappear. The keyboard worked okay, but was a bit sluggish. Not really sure what else I can do with the card at this point, but would be interested in hearing if anyone else has managed to get one working properly in an A2000? Seems my 040 just doesn't have the oomph, or it's the ZII bus. I suspect most users are on A3000/A4000...

Anyone know where I can track down a copy of the original Thylacine disk? The link on amiga.resource.cx for Thylacine1.3.lha is dead. Might give that a shot and skip Poseidon, see if I have any better luck.

Also FYI the guy building them on Amibay is now starting to take pre-orders for a four-port version. Not cheap though!

This thread is super old.  I sold the Thylacine years ago for an X-Surf 100 + RapidRoad and never looked back. Thanks though!
