Well that's a bummer!  I had the exact same thing happen to me when I purchased an A1010 off ebay.  The shipper tossed it in a box with naught but a crumpled up ball of newspaper to protect it.  Fortunately they refunded me half the cost, and I'd gotten a deal in the first place... think I only wound up paying about $5, so no big deal.  Also I was able to repair it with a gob-load of superglue.  Still, I hear ya on these irreplaceable items getting damaged by careless shippers!  :whack:

Side comment - what's up with all these political comments in the hardware forums?  Save it for the coffee house!  :p
