Actually, the idea for amiwest started in St Louis.
Alan Crandell (from Santa Rosa, CA at the time) was at the St Louis Amiga Show and saw the booth for AEMail (created by John Zacharias) John was wearing two hats at the booth,  both for AEMail and SACC .
The Sacramento Amiga Computer Club that runs the show to this day.
He walked up to John and said " We should have a amiga show like this in California."

You too could startup your own amiga show in MN!

Michael (just one of the folks who helped John run AmiWest)

Everyone says that they want an amiga show where they live...
but SACC is the only group (that I know) that actually goes to the expense and effort.

But go for it, Atlanta too far for me (LOL)

Michael

last year, I transported some equipment to the hotel, but I wasn't able to stay

Well, folks like to come visit California. Some do vacation before/after the show.

When we developed the show, we too had concerns (our fearless leaders still do)
Getting people to commit because of the travel is worse then pulling teeth....

But amiga fans are far and few, so
"Build it and they will come."

@matt

Funny you should ask me. I wanted the show dates to stay on the last july weekend as that was the roll out anniversity. In the beginning the brits wanted that same weekend and vendors were torn between that show and amiwest. But others complained of the heat in Sac during the summer Chuck and Brian were convinced to change the date.
BTW, now Brian (as club president) and Chuck (all around good guy) make those calls.
Please ask them about show details.

I now just attend (if I can)

Michael

It's NOT just the place, as all the suggestions show.

IT'S the PEOPLE to plan it, spend their money and lots of time, set it up and hope for the best.

Everyone wants it close to home, but no one wants to take on the fuss.

So just come to AMIWest 2011.

Everything's taken care of, the place, the vendors, The food (great banquet) The fun!
The amigas, all kinds classic, os4, morphos, aros, uae, etc...

It's all ready for you!

Hey all. I was hoping to do some shooting out there and have been trying to contact these guys for weeks, to no avail. Really weird. Does anyone here know the guys at AmiWest and could pass a message along for me?

Surely they gotta be interested in being a part of Amiga history...
Amiwest is a part of amiga history as is SACC.

This is the only group to host a major amiga happening every year, for YEARS!

The club has the honor to house the Jay Miner Amiga Library.

Lots of folks bring their video cameras...
All you have to do is pack up your stuff and be here in Sacramento.

There will be a need for  more then 30.
Just the helpers will deplete the supply.

Do we have permission to make copies?

Even if you can't come. Be sure to watch as Bill Bosari works really hard to web cast.
