Anyone with Amiga 1000 or 3000
« on: October 01, 2012, 05:27:54 PM »
Hi i been thinking that the only 2 Amigas i have never tried or owed is the Amiga 1000 and 3000. Are there anybody in here who has them, and what are your experience with them? what will you guys say i should get next if it is between these 2? I have a dream about getting a Amiga 3000T but the prices of them are very high. But also it could be cool to own the very first Amiga :)

The A1000 is a quite nice machine with about 1.5 - 2 megs of total RAM.  I had one in the 90s and I viewed it as just an OCS machine to play games on. I ended up with sidecar hard drive on it.  I see it as more of a nostalgia machine, I'm not really into upgrading them beyond kickstart 1.3 and a hard drive.  I realize that some people have found ways to accelerate them, wedge memory in them, or have a rejuvenator board, but I tend to like them mostly "stock."

The Desktop A3000 is really nice, I still have one, and I think it's right near the pinnacle of development/sophistication (architecture wise) on the Amiga.

Actually the _only_ amiga I haven't yet owned is the A3000T ... and I wish I would've had the cash to get one years ago.

Yes it could be nice to have a Amiga 3000T :) I saw one a few days ago to around 1000 dollars with 040 CPU and a lot of other upgrades. i know it sounds much, but still i will rather have the 3000T than a new Lap top Computer :)

I love the a3000.  I have owned two desktops and one a3000T/040.  That tower was amazing...  I miss her dearly.   *sniff*

Lol but in all seriousness with an a3000 if you get an acard scsi to ide adapter and a compact flash adapter, you will already have an awesome machine.  And it's got tons of upgradeability.  I love the built-in vga.  The a4000 in a lot of ways is a downgrade, IMO the only real upgrade is the aga chipset.

I've never owned an a1000 but I don't really know what the benefit would be for having one.  I don't see a ton of things out there floating around so far as a1000 upgrades go :)

Why did you decided to sell your Amiga 3000T?

The A1000 is great for running older software. It is fairly easy to get Kickstart 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 disks that will run software the may not run on newer machines. Granted hard drives may be a problem, unless you can find an A500 sidecar GVP, Supra, etc. They will work with 1.2 and 1.3 Kickstart.
I love the A3000. Great machine! What else can I say?
I also like the A2000 a lot. With at least an '030 accelerator they accept a multitude of Zorro II cards, and the Video Toaster. In the past I have had an A2000 running 3.1OS, and Windows 98 (with a 386 Bridgeboard). There is a lot that can be done with the A2000.

Did you have Windows 98 on your Amiga 2000? that sounds quite cool :-)
