Removing a DKB Kwickstart
« on: August 05, 2015, 12:28:35 AM »
Cracking open my recently acquired A1000, I found this little beauty: a DKB Kwickstart...although I was really hoping to keep it as original as possible, so I'm thinking of removing it. But I'm not exactly sure how to remove it. There are 2 wires going from the Kwickstart to the WCS daughterboard...can I just cut them?? I also noticed there's a 3rd wire (indicated by the arrow in the second picture) going from one chip to another, what's up with that??

Good point about the PAL chip....I see there's a jumper labeled "ROM" and "Disk" but switching it doesn't seem to make a difference...oh well...I managed to put 1.3 in there instead of 2.04. I noticed the hardware database says that you can't use the WCS as ram, because the larger 2.0 rom, being 512k instead of 256k, uses the address space...However, since I put in 1.3 which is 256k, shouldn't I be able to it as ram now? Looks like the original Kwikstart can do it. Also, anyone know what that keyboard shortcut they talk about would be for switching roms on the kwikstart II?
