Most stuff should run just fine on 3.1, as long as it isnt doing something terribly wierd stuff that breaks compability - like amiga basic for example. Anyone has any other examples?
IMHO 2.04 and up is much easier to use and powerful compared to 1.x. If no applications you use only works on 1.x, there is no reason not to use say 3.1 when it is faster, more powerful, etc. Ofcourse I understand that it might break that authentic A1000 feeling ;=).
The 880kB floppy is no problem, the 2.04 and 3.1 kickstart is only 512kB large, but the storage for the kickstart in the A1000 (the WOM) is to small to fit kickstart 2.04 or 3.1. If you have some extra fastmem in your A1000, you can use
twinkick to create a 3.1 kickstart disk for it.
You could also hack a 2.04 or 3.1 rom into it like
this. That one could be done quite nice without piggy-backing etc.
