Don't call it the everyday card. Compared to the 3D version it is mil spec, honestly!

You will have to get a CyberStormPPC/MK3 + CyberVisionPPC or a Mediator + Voodoo3 to be able to do 1280x1024x16 non interlaced. If you settle for 8-bit, it the CV64 will manage it though.

Btw, it is a wise choice not to go for the 3D version. It does not just have the by large slowest Zorro3 bus interface of all Zorro3 cards, but it also has an absolute horrible image quality. And to add more to its misery, it cant really do 3D. I was serious in my previous statement regarding the mil spec.

Definately no offense taken, I just had milspec on my mind when I was replying ;=).

Those specs must be wrong as the CV64 has a max pixelclock of 80MHz at 16-bit. A 1280x1024 screenmode at 50Hz requires a pixelclock of around 100MHz. I think there is a setting that will allow you to go above those 80MHz at 16-bit, but that will make the card use more bandwidth for just refreshing the screen than meant and will thus inhibit access to the vram for both the graphics chip itself (blitting, line-drawing, etc) and the cpu. At a bit over max, it will just make the card slower, but at some point it will give display artefacts and I think it will be next to impossible to reach the pixelclocks required for the 56Hz at 1280x1024 which I assume is your monitors minimum refresh-rate.

8-bit isnt too bad though and with those older cards at high resolutions it is much faster.

I would definately recommend 8-bit at a native resolution instead of running in a non-native resolution and getting a embarassingly bad image. Once upon a time when I had a CV64 in my A4000 I used it with a fixed sync monitor that only accepted 1280x1024@70Hz - so no 16-bit there, but if you spend a little time and get a good backdrop and create a dithered ~128 colour version of it with gimp or some other good software, it looks really good. If you arent into graphics software there is no limitation with 8-bit really and those can always be run at one of those sub-standard looking non-native screenmodes.
