Injured A3000 Needs Assistance
« on: May 18, 2015, 04:40:45 PM »
I recently acquired an old A3000/25, and I've damaged it like an idiot! I need your help.

The machine was operational before I tore it down to clean the board. However, when putting it back together, I replaced the ROM tower wrong, and when I turned the machine on, I got a flashing orange screen. Now placing the ROM tower in correctly, nothing happens other than the power light comes on.

I'm sure I fried the ROMs, but what else might I have damaged? I can get a new set of ROMs, but if I did more extensive damage that may not be repairable, should I bother?

Another question: the ROM tower shows the ROMs sitting in sockets U182 and U183. Is it possible to place replacement ROMs directly on the motherboard in those same sockets? In other photos I've seen some show the ROMs and U180 and U181. (In my other A3000 that just has the two sockets, those sockets are U180 and U181.)

Thanks!

Hap

I pulled a working set of ROMs from another A3000 and replaced the ROMs in the tower. The A3000 fires up perfectly now. I'll probably be putting it up for sale shortly. Feel free to message me if you're interested.
