I may have ordered an aca620 for this... wish me luck making it fit! I'm also revisiting the idea of fitting an internal dc-dc supply, with a few bits and pieces on their way from eBay.

I'm aiming for a power supply that's good for 5volts at about 5amps, and 12volts at 5amps, not because the a600 needs 12v at 5amps, but rather because I can steal 12volts out of the original power input jack to run an lcd screen ;)

The ACA620 is a cracking little card. It'll make your A600 fly comparatively :)

It might be, if it fits in the space I have! :hammer:

Its the clearance between the accelerator and cd drive that may be an issue, namely above the 68000 cpu.

The plcc sockets appear to measure 8.1mm, plus a 1.6mm pcb. I can always trim the pins flat to the board ;)

So, do I have 10mm of clearance between the motherboard and cd drive... I dunno, I'll worry about that when it doesn't fit! I have a file and I'm not afraid to make the cd drive housing smaller! xD

I know its not shorting, because I cut the pins off, and there's two layers of kapton tape over the board ;)

I need to modify the ide cable now, as obviously it won't fit where it used to run...

I'd like to see the keyboard in place now. Looks pretty tight to me, but it looks as though you're well on the way. ;)

Keyboard has already been fitted with the optical drive in place, and the optical drive hasn't moved.

I'm going to try and get another half a mm or so of clearance between the accelerator and the optical drive, as I think its a bit too close :hammer:

its all together, for now, and it works.

However, while I had it apart, I changed the ide wiring, and now the cd drive refuses to auto mount...

Previously, it would only mount if there was a cd in the drive, now it will never mount, even putting it at the very end of the startup sequence, after workbench has loaded!

However, type "mount CD0:" in the shell, and it mounts every time, even without the cd in the drive, so maybe I'll just mount it with a shortcut from now on ;)

I'm also planning to add an internal DC-DC power supply, so I can run the Amiga off a small laptop power supply, and may in the future add an A604n, and an Indivision scan doubler ;)

I also believe that the CPU needs a heatsink... it got to about 70 degrees doing basically nothing.... I'm also considering adding a fan to the top of the case so there's some active cooling.

Needed a heatsink ;)

I do however now suspect that the ide cable is putting pressure on the  bottom of the drive, and putting a load on the eject mechanism when  trying to eject a CD...

I ended up building a messy DC-DC converter, just to get it running, so I didn't have to carry the 1.8kg original power supply around.

Its not the final version, as the parts I'm waiting on haven't arrived yet, so it was just made using what I already have.

The -12v rail is coming from a dc-dc module that does +-12v, but if you unevenly load the rails, they go fairly out of spec, so I'm only using the -12v, with a small load applied to the +12v side to keep it balanced.

Meanwhile, I'm using a 93 cent dual output dc-dc module off ebay, modified to give the +5 and +12volt rails.... what can possibly go wrong!

When I press the right shift key, I get about 8 keystrokes across the keyboard, including caps lock being turned on xD

Oh dear....

This probably won't explode as much...
