Amiga 500, A590 SCSI CD Rom help?
« on: June 09, 2012, 03:02:21 PM »
what am I doing wrong here?

Should it be omniscsi or gvpscsi? or something else? (I realised later it probably should be scsi.device but this still didn't work?)
Possibly should also be noted that I have KS3.1 and WB3.1, and an AM33C93A scsi controller chip, as well as version 7.0 of the scsi rom chips...

Workbench doesn't mount the drive automatically when I turn the machine  on, I thought this was the point? or do I have to add "mount cd0:" to  somewhere else?

Sysinfo tells me this... I've also seen a capacity listed under the "real" column?

But then Directory Opus comes up with this error, no matter what disc is  in the drive... don't tell me I need "special" discs?!? I'm also  thinking the drive may be faulty... btw, I've put the newer scsi  controller chip in, and the newer roms too...

Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks!

forgot to mention..
I removed babelcdfs, setup AmiCDFS instead, doesn't work. Won't even  appear in DOpus, even when mounted the same as with babelcdfs. Despite WB telling me its already mounted if I try mounting it again.

both drives are actually terminated, they aren't in a "line" the  connector plugged into the scsi controller is the middle plug on the  cable.

Could this be an issue? or that the CD rom is set to ID 1?

Its actually a burner, and has two lights, both of which I believe can display two colours...

The one light appears to be green when the drive is mounted, but orange when its not mounted... constantly on when WB has loaded with a disc in the drive. Other light is most likely the "write" LED.

I don't recall if the A590 has termination on (its a bit late at night now) but the HDD from memory is also terminated...

too many terminations? lol

"Switch 2: LUN Enable This switch only affects SCSI drives. If you have more than one device at a phyiscal address set Switch 2 to ON. When this switch is in the OFF position, the system only looks for one drive, at each physical SCSI address. when this switch is in the ON position the system will attempt to open Logical Units 0 through 7 at each physical SCSI address."

*sigh*

Doesn't work unless its on.

Thats the only thing I changed.

Using AmiCDFS, yes you can edit the parameters in the CD0 file that you put in the DEVS/DOSDrivers folder.

The only things I set in that were the ID to 1, and device to scsi.device (which it was by default, but I'd changed it before I knew what I was doing... still don't really)

I only quickly tested it last night, as it was late, but its the first time the drive has actually done anything in WB!

changed a few things around... turns out the HDD wasn't terminated, tried terminating that instead of the CD, and it failed, HDD just beeped at me...

so, put the termination back on the cd rom, and changed the cable around, as well as changing the cd id to 4.

so, the cable goes from the A590, to the HDD (ID2), to the CDRom(ID4) (which is terminated)

And even then, it didn't work properly, sometimes reading a few discs, other times not even realising there was a CDrom in the drive...

SO! I ditched AmiCDFS, (after already ditching BabelCDFS) and tried IDEfix97 instead...

It appears to actually work! all the discs I've put in its recognised, windows 98 install disc? a linux disc? apparently I have a burnt copy of halflife with no label...

Not only that, but AmiCDFS wasn't displaying full folder and file names, whereas IDEfix displays the full name, 20+ characters long, no worries!

So, If I see anyone recommending BabelCDFS, or AmiCDFS, I'm going to slap them!
