GeForce 030
« on: October 29, 2012, 07:42:41 PM »
I just bought a GeForce 030 combo card, with only the 1m installed.  SoftHut says on their website they have some of the 4m simms available, but I have heard that they ususally don't respond to emails.  Anyone buy anything from them recently?  Is there anywhere else to get the simms?  This will be replacing my A2630 and A2091 in my A2000.  Thanks.

Edit:  I sent them an email last night about the simms, awaiting a response.

Well, I got my Gforce 030 combo card, and it is installed.  I have 12 meg of simms on the way.  Right now, it only has the 1 meg onboard ram.  I have it set up as expanded memory, using an 8 meg Supraram card for my fast memory, and I have 2 meg chip ram via a MegaChip.  I ran SysInfo, and the system utility in ClassicWB ADVSP, and the extended ram doesn't show up anywhere.  Is this normal?  If so is there any software that will show total memory, with expanded memory as well as fast and chip ram?  Thanks.

Well, it shows all the fast ram, but I have the memory on the combo card set up as extended memory, which someone correct me if I'm wrong, is the only way you can get over I think 10 meg (8 meg fast+2 meg chip) on an A2000.  I may be wrong about that, though.  I don't think the extended memory is counted as fast ram.  Someone who knows for sure can chime in, as I am just guessing.  Thanks.

Well, according to the book, it is 32-bit.  I guess, the problem is, then, that the extended ram on the GVP isn't showing up in SysInfo.  It shows up as fast ram if the jumper is set to auto-config, but with J12 removed, setting it to extended mem, it doesn't show up.  I have a SupraRam installed w/8 meg, that shows up fine in SysInfo.  I don't know any other jumper settings, and have looked at the Hardware Database online, but some of the jumpers they show on there, aren't even on my board.  Here is what I have:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amiga-GVP-G-Force-030-Combo-Board-/160906574203?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&nma=true&si=I7%2F9c8vlUI%2F1FfbuPz5p1qFzm8w%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Edit:  I have upgraded it to the v4.15 ROM, and one other thing, the crystal is 22 mhz, instead of 33 mhz like the others I've seen online.  It shows running 22 mhz in SysInfo.

Thanks

It is 1mb, there is a link to the actual board a couple of posts above.  I have it seeing the memory.  It is showing 8 mb on my SupraRam board, 2 mb of chip ram, and 1 mb of 32 bit memory.  That is 11 mb total.  It says in the manual, that if you set it up as Zorro II memory, there is a 9mb limit including chip ram.  The funny thing is, that the jumper settings in the book most of the time, don't match the board.  The picture isn't even the same.  It says, if J12 is open, it sets up as extended ram, and with J12 closed, it is auto-config Zorro II memory.  If I use those guidelines, and leave J12 open, it doesn't see the memory at all.  With it closed, it shows up as 32 bit fast ram, for a total of 11 mb altogether, when it says  there is a maximum of 9 mb that way.  I think this may be another incorrect jumper setting for this model, and it is just the opposite as the book says, which is typical, from what I've seen.  It is a Gforce 030, Rev. 4 for the A2000.  I get about 2 mb/sec. transfer on this card on my scsi CF hard drive setup, which is faster than with the A2091 I was using.  This board does show up a little slower than the A2630 it replaced, though, according to SysInfo, which I assume is because it is running at 22 mhz, and the A2630 is running at 25 mhz.
