Amiga 500 KS Upgrade
« on: May 13, 2012, 12:05:54 AM »
I have an A500, a with Rev. 5 motherboard.  It came with a KS 1.3 ROM, and I wanted to upgrade it.  I recently upgraded my A2000 to a 3.1 KS ROM, so I had the 2.05 chip.  I decided to try the 2.05 KS in my A500.  When I turn it on, it is just a black screen, the power light won't even turn on.  I have an extra 3.1 KS ROM, so I thought I'd try it, and it just came up with a pink screen.  I put the 1.3 chip back in, and everything is fine.  I have a 512K expansion in the trapdoor.  Is there something else that needs to be done first?  I would like to bring the 500 at least up to the 2.05.  I hope I didn't fry my 2.05 and 3.1 ROMS by putting them in the 500.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks, everyone.  Soldered a jumper from pin 1 to pin 31 on my KS 2.0 ROM and all is well now.  Booted into WB 2.05 with no problem.  When I looked closer, there was solder on pins 1 and 31 of the ROM already, so apparently someone had done this to it before.  Must have been in an older A500 at one time.  It came out of my A2000, which I upgraded to 3.1.

Thanks,
Jeff
