Not CF, but these things work very nicely. The v5 boards are available from AmigaKit, eBay, and a few other vendors. Not sure anyone's tried the new v6 boards yet.

@ blakespot

The SCSI ID and a number of other settings are set in software via USB connection to a PC or Linux (theoretically Mac as well, but I can't get it working). Make sure to set those how you like them before connecting to your machine. A single SCSI2SD unit can even emulate several SCSI IDs and you can split your microSD media across them.

You can also restrict the media size for troublesome SCSI controllers (i.e., <4GB if you only have a 16GB SD card and don't want to play with the patches to get larger drives working). I think the default is to restrict to 2GB, so make sure to change that too :)

I don't think you need to clear anything with the SCSI2SD (unless you want to adjust that drive layout to be a single unit and use partitions from the Amiga instead). Just edit the tooltypes in the HDToolbox icon to use gvpscsi.device, (re)prep each "drive" with an RDB, partition to your liking, and you should be set.

Edit: also, for now, set the boot priority of SDH0: to 1. If that's your main system partition, you want to make sure it boots first. If all the partitions are set to priority 0, I think that's why you're getting the boot problem you described.

If you want to make sure all traces of FaaastPrep's work are gone, use HDToolbox to reinstall the drive. That will re-read the device parameters and give you a fresh RDB (partition mapping table). Can't remember the exact name of the button, but it's the one in the upper left when you start HDToolbox. :)

I've got a still new in package v5.0a scsi2sd board but just wondering if the v6 updates improve on speed?? anyone know what MB/s a v6 board gets?

According to the author's page, v6 is supposed to be considerably faster. Once it gets out of beta I'll probably grab one (or two ;)).

Oh, I always forget about that silly drive definitions screen. I think it made sense in the days before drives could accurately report their own geometry and before bootable hard drives were the norm - you'd enter your drive parameters, save them to a file, and could then pull them from the file if you needed to reinstall the drive (or prep an identical one). Nowadays, it's pointless, and I think the version of HDToolbox in OS3.5 and 3.9 eliminates it entirely. You can essentially skip it by just selecting "Define new..."
