YAM and message archives
« on: February 05, 2011, 07:06:09 PM »
Due to a shortage of hard drive space, I used to back up my YAM mailboxes to CD, delete them from the hard drive, and basically "start anew" every time I did a backup.

Now that I have essentially unlimited disk space, I want to bring my archives back into YAM for easier searching. I'm concerned because:
1. Some of the backups are in the old YAM 2.4 format. If I dump these files into my inbox directory, will YAM correctly identify and convert them if there are already a bunch of newer 2.5-format mails in there?
2. How does YAM set filenames for messages? Worried that, for example, message 45 of backup 1 might have the same filename as message 45 of backup 3, even though they are different messages.

Thanks for any insight!

@ number6

A single message test? Why didn't I think of that? :)

I'm pleased to report that YAM correctly converted the old messages and I now have my gigantic archive. Thanks!

New question (though related): Using the Import... menu option, is YAM smart enough to avoid/skip duplicate messages? Anyone know?

Thanks.
