Sorry, that's how they're designed. Kind of annoying, but I don't think anyone anticipated owning multiple PCMCIA peripherals when the adaptors were designed.
I use a CompactFlash -> PCMCIA adaptor to get photos from my digital camera. Swapping that card back and forth is a real nightmare.
There are PCMCIA adaptors for PCI slots, but there aren't any Amiga drivers.
