As you're new to the Amiga, an important thing to keep in mind is this: Anything you want to do with the 600 you can do faster and more easily with your 1200. The _only_ advantage of the 600 is that it's tiny. It's a fun hobbyist machine for many of us here at AO who already have other high-end setups, but if you're still trying to find a use for your other Amigas, the 600 will offer you nothing.
Get an accelerator and some RAM for your 1200, get a network card, get online, start browsing Aminet. It takes a long time to tweak a setup to suit your tastes, so read, experiment, and learn. Ssee what's out there. Do you have the Workbench, DOS, ARexx, and Hard Drive manuals? Find them - you'd be surprised what you can do with a stock system.
And backup (and write-protect) all your Workbench disks before you do anything else.
