Oh yes!

the only thing you can boot from is a PCMCIA card that is 1, 2 or 4 megs in size..you can actually put Workbench on it and it will boot off the card.  You can try getting an Apple Newton PCMCIA card and it should work...........dont get anything larger than 4 megs.

now as far as the same port being used for other things..well..................you can read Compact Flash cards, Sony Memory stick, SD media (with the PCMCIA convertor) and even ethernet cards to go online with!

go to Aminet and download  cfd.lha and fat95.lha and install them...you will now be able to read all these medias and that includes IBM micro drives!..........I have a 2Gigabyte PCMCIA memory card on my A600 :-)
keep in mind that these card are different than the CC0: device cards.....those can only be accepted upto 4 megs on the Amiga.
