1. Gentoo Linux (kernel 2.6.8.1).
2. Good question. The main reason is because it worked for me the first time and still does so. It's also the most stable OS I've ever used. It can be quite responsive if you know which tricks to apply. The shift from AmigaOS to Linux was easy because I used to run a lot of BSD and UNIX apps (GeekGadgets) under AmigaOS and Multiuser.
3. I'm not considering switching away from Linux. But I am planning to buy hardware for running MorphOS or OS 4.
