Hi,
Can anyone please help me with the installation of OS4 Pre-Release?
I have printed out the installation guide from amigaworld.net (all 8 sections plus photos) but am still having problems with section one - Updating the firmware.
I am able to interupt the boot up and have found I have UBoot version 0.1 but thats about it.
Please help me, ANYONE?
:-?

What is trhe date of your UBoot version?
-
The date on the install guide says For updating from "10th September 2003" UBoot please use the 0.1 image.
So i presume 10th September 2003, but unsure as my AmigaOne is presently switched off (as I am anoyed that it isn't a bit easier to come to grips with).
I know there is no real step by step guide to follow, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Very simple.
For updating from "10th September 2003" U-Boot, use the "From 0.1" image.
For updating from "22nd December 2003" or later U-Boot, use the "From 1.0" image
So what you do is type "ver" on the prompt and you will see which version and date. Then you go to the cd and go to the dir Firmware and select the right one, that is from_0.1 or from_1.0
But like you told before you need from_0.1

have you burned the firmware update to a cd if you have it should be easy as all you then do is put the firmware cd in let it autoboot and follow a few on screen prompts and dont turn your machine off it dont take long to update.
I ignored the imformation to burn the cd using linux it was much easier and faster with windows and nero.
what amigaone do you have is it the 600 g3 or a g4 xe. :-?

A mad question..
But why not provide the correct firmware to start with, to save the headache of setting up, because its "easy"

hee hee, i suppose lazyness/cost

Er... I think it's simpler than that - the software just wasn't fully ready when the boards were manufactured.
What has me confused is why early versions of UBoot 0.1 were write protected. It was obvious that the software had to be updated - floppy support wasn't even enabled yet.

I tried typing ver to find the version of UBoot but it said it was an unknown command.
I tried typing version and that worked.
So what else works and doesn't work :-?

'ver' is an allowed abreviation to 'version'. What does 'version' report then? If it doesn't know the 'ver' command, it is possible that your BIOS is too old to be updated and you need to ask your dealer.
Please try to quote the exact version string.

I found I had UBoot version 0.1
Someone mentioned creating a Firmware boot disk to update.
I am unsure whether this is necessary and if it is how to go about it

@Mouse
Someone mentioned creating a Firmware boot disk to update.
The instructions that came with the OS will tell you just how to do it. But I would choose for the cdrom version. If you have a PC just burn the firmware update on a cd and then boot with that cd on the A1. The manual will tell you exactly how to boot and how to install the upgrade. Also after it how to install the OS4 is explained good.
Let me know if you get it working.
