Hola!
i found this joke from India:
An politician was speaking to a group. He was delighted that many of the group would enthusiastically yell, "HOYA" numerous times during his speech.
The next day he was touring the district and during the tour was shown through a dairy. There were numerous patties around the area. His guide said, "Be careful not to step in the hoya."

It's from Frank Zappa, MAD's favourite musician.
-
Hum,
And Zappa got it from....?
Soya?

LOL thanks mate! I have been racking my small brain over this word for weeks... My brother has been gettin extremely peed off with me, each time I come back from work or whatever, I just say "hoya" (not knowing what it meant!), even if he got in on the act lately...
I forgot to ask...hoya, in what language?

Hoya!
ROTFL!!!!
OK, lemme explain.
It come from FZ, indeed, and he used to use it during concerts to say hello. It is probably the contraction of "Hey you!". He used it in tunes as an onnomatopea.
BTW, KennyR I know you hate FZ (well, someone who likes new wave cannot appreciate FZ's idiosyncratic genius anyway :-P ) but Zappa NEVER took any drug. He was adamantly opposed to them, he was even fired from one of his first eqarly bands for NOT using them!!!
"The present-day composer refuses to die".
Be funky (this is me, not FZ :-D )

PS: now people using Hoya got me under their skin!!! :-D

Zappa was a great thinker and a great artist.
I really enjoyed his debates with the shrew tipper a-hole gore during the PMRC debacle.
plus, he really knew how to come up with names for kids!
(I mean that seriously).
