I'm a bit of a fan of Cosby (but not too much ;), however with comments like this:
telling a room full of activists that black children are running around not knowing how to read or write and "going nowhere."
I agree, but shouldn't that apply to all people, and not just black people. (obvious)
Where I live, black people are no more likely to be illiterate than caucasian, and caucasion no more likely to be illiterate than Asians, erm... etcetera.
I do like his attitude, though! :-)

One more thing. I wholeheartedly agree with this:
Cosby denounced some blacks' grammar and said those who commit crimes and wind up behind bars "are not political prisoners."

Me too, but I nearly fainted when Jesse Jackson of all people agreed with him! I can't believe it! I mean, I REALLY can't believe it. they must have made a mistake, I'll have to keep my eye open for a correction.

Wow! I mostly know Bill Cosby for his sticky sweet sitcom in the 80's, not as a political talking head. I must say I'm impressed by his straight shooting. I am in disbelief that Jesse Jackson appeared to agree. Is this the same Jesse Jackson :-?

Ok, I know who Cosby is. But who the hell is Jackson?

"Civil Rights Leader" I think is what he would be labeled. He marched with and was very close to Martin Luther King. He's a very well known figure head in the US. He has spent his life in persuit of black equality, which in and of itself is quite noble. Unfortunately as many think, he has lost sight of the goal and plainly slipped into the land of the bizzare. Usually when you see Jesse Jackson on the news, it's a good reason to roll your eyes.

he used to be the unofficial "president of Black People" (as some have said jokingly), but basically he's a guy that figured out how to exploit racism for his own (financial) benefit.
He figured out how to squeese money out of people by threatening to yell "racist" in public. since some groups amd companies (in this horribly PC society) didn't want to be ruined by such yelling, they would relent to his racketeering.
he really is an amazing scam artist.
but things got sticky when people found out he had a baby by someone who wasn't his wife - AND he was sending her money from the company coffers.
Oops!!!!
:-o
