Hi
I would like to run some DOS applications on my Amiga and have found the x86-emulator PC-Task in Aminet. Unfortunaly this is only a demo that doesn't allow any write-access to a floppy or HD. I've googled through the internet to find any place where I could purchase this software, but the distribution seems to be completely stoped :-(
Does anybody know where I could find this peace of software ? I've already started a search in (german) eBay that will inform me per email whenever someone offers this tool, but maybe there is another place I could get it.
Or does anybody know a "free" tool that is able to run DOS 6.22 from HD and allows access to a CD-ROM ?
I cannot use a bridgeboard, there is no free Zorro-slot in my Amiga :-( (and a software-emulated PC will be fast enough on my 68060, i.e. faster than most bridgeboards).

Try the PCx demo instead, it is less limited than the PCTask one, it allows for example to write on devices.

http://www.ge.vip.fi perhaps? But very hefty price...

Try this spanish web site for PCTask for 89 Euros (£59)

Hi
Thanks for the tips, but 89 EUR ? I could get PCx bundled with the Fusion Mac-emulator for half of the money or I could buy a nice, complete, used Pentium III computer on eBay for this money :-D
Ok, I will wait until someone offers this tool on eBay and continue using a separat PC until I've got it much cheaper...

I don't know which version, but there was a full verison of PC-task on a cover disk somewhere. Check the coverdisk archives on the net.

CU Amiga Magazine's Super CD-ROM 17 have full version of PC Task 3.1 and a demo of PC-Task4.3 along with hardfile containing some software.

Amiga Format did 3.1 as well some time towards the end ...

Try to find a copy of Amiga Format 134. The cd version has PCX 1.1 full version. Do not use memmaker this program will crash. Most programmes will run. PC task 4.4 can run Windows 95, but is very slow even on an 68060 CPU.

might want to try shapeshifter (mac emulator) with soft pc 68k version if found on some mac emulation site. I know using it under the PC /athlon 2000 with fusion. I got the the 286 emulator up to speeds 486 150-200mhz. The mac emulation was only a 68020 emulator but according to speend test it beat 150 ppc in power, close to the power of a 200 ppc.

Now that's granular!
I wonder how hard it would be to code an OS4-native x86 emulator. Or will Bochs do? (is Bochs open-source?)

Hum,
have a look here (http://nthdimension.emuunlim.com/)
(i haven`t checked to see if it`s there but i`m sure that you may find something you like) :-D

Bochs runs nicely under MOS - there's a GUI front end for it too, though the emulation version lags behind the main Linux one - On MorphZone there's a couple of screenshots of running Win98 in a window, which looks nice :-)

Is there a definitive list someplace of the hardware that Bochs emulates? The only thing I could find was that it emulates a "sound blaster" and (duh) an x86 processor...
