Title: Help.. A500
Post by: djh82uk on June 27, 2004, 03:39:08 PM
Hey.

I had an amiga 500 years ago, and bought one from a boot sale for a few quid the other day, tho has only one game and now workbench, but runs the game ok.

And so I am a little out of touch with amigas and have a few questions.

Can I get a hard drive to work with the A500, if so how?
Is a 512k upgrade enough for an A500.

I want to transfer .adf files from the pc to amiga disks.  I have looked at a few posts and it seems null modem cable is easiest.  But not having a hard drive, what is it going to copy to if anything at all?

You can get a HD to work on an A500. Two ways I know of are:

1. Get an Alfapower HD interface. This sits on the expansion port on the left of the machine and provides two IDE connectors and you can put up to 8Mb of ram in it also.

2. Get a Viper 520 accelerator board. Provides a faster CPU (68020) and a couple of 2.5" IDE connectors and I think it also has a Kickstart ROM onboard.

I have both and they work well. I have a CD Rom connected to the Alfapower as well as a "huge" 200Mb drive.

But I have no idea where you might get these items now.
