:-(
Well, until the next world cup...
Here's the thread you've been waiting for Kenny :pissed:
I wish Portugal success in Euro04. Although that Ronaldo is an arrogant c&*t...
-
Portugal won :-)
-
Well, WE won with 3-0 of Latvija
(*sigh*, all this orange stuff begins to hurt the eyes )
well, it gives perspective for some more nice evenings with friends. :pint:
Yup, I like the game, but not all the fuss around it.
And in particular, I do not like the ":pissed:" aspect of it, tis a friggin' game for goodness sake Cyberus! Well, now you lost, it's also fun to be for the green guys instead of being for the yellow guys (or whatever colour the English are).
-
I'm still wondering wtf Beckham was doing with that penalty :-).
-
It wasn't Beckham's fault I guess. The penalty spot had the texture of a deflated rubber dinghy. No wonder everyone else either stamped the crap out of the thing or didn't even put the ball on it.

Excuses, excuses... you sure you're not Italian? :-P
/me runs away.... ;-)

Has Beckham EVER scored a penalty in an international match ?
We Wuzz Robbed !!!
-
Just watched the game again on a re-run... What did you guys think of the refing? My buddies, who were pro-England (or should I say, anti-Portugal) thought the refs were favouring Portugal. In particular, they claimed the disallowed goal should have been counted. What do you guys think???

I don't know where they had their classes as referees, but I guess it was a lousy school, the Goal Keeper *can't* be touched in that area!
But it shows that England played so well that one have to ramble about one inexistent goal... If 'you' want to point at someone point at your selection who had done nothing to actually deserve to won, even the penalties from england were a joke... sick what a bad loosers

Well, at least it matched the quality of their defending..
To be honest, I don`t think England deserved to get that far, without Rooney we`d have been out long ago.

That's been my opinion right through the group stages.
I just got back from a holiday in Croatia (beautiful place!) the day before the England-Croatia match, and I was backing the Croats rather than the England; they had been playing far better, more consistently, and I'd rather that they'd have got through (*)
To be quite fair, though, England were very lucky not to concede more goals against Portugal; also if you go back and watch the Portugal vs Spain match, you'll realise that Portugal are easily good enough to go the distance in this competition...
* - I'd have loved it even more if Croatia had beaten the French! That 90th minute miss - ouch! :-)
-
We've lost. Its over with. Lets just prepare for the World Cup in Deutschland in 2 years time.
LOL @ Germanys current form. They lost to the Czech reserve team. If they can't get past the group stage in their own tournament in two years, I'd be LMAO.
As for who I want to win - Portugal or Netherlands. France better not win it! :-x

Portugal did play better but they did make mistakes. If there had been no contact with the goalie then that goal could have been the end. Sloppy defending from both sides.
-
Hoya!
France lost? Muhahahahahahahaha! At last, I will not be bothered any longer by fellow compatriots about "the best team in the world"!
For the record, Figo looks like my best friend! ;-D
Be funky

Everyone make mistakes, even champions.. as to this clear non-situation (about the goal who hadn't happened) brought by UK press is that can easily be seen that our goalie has been touched, obviously not by Sol, but he didn't need to be the one making the fault to void the goal, the english player was rather naive when he give Ricardo a chance to void the goal... but oh! We're so big, we're so beautiful, we cannot loose, it can't be our fault kind of attitude that show your arrogance towards the game itself...
England was winning against france and loose, played poorly against Swiss and still all you blame is the referee... typical from someone who cannot see himself on the mirror.
Cheers and happy riddance 'beckhome'!

That one word says sums it all up, "game"
Whatever happened to the days when sportsmanship meant something?
The way some games are played, it`s almost as if they`re life depended on it.
-
The way some games are played, it`s almost as if they`re life depended on it.
And herein lies the problem.
England will never win diddly squat with that attitude.
To win you give your all ... And then a bit more.
If that had been a war .... Our cities would now have been pillaged... Our women raped, our sons murdered.
Sush is the absolute disaster defeat should be thought in.
As the Aussies say ....
when we have done our best, We shall do a little better
(Advance Australia Fair.)
Our team just doesn't have the hunger for ultimate victory.
Apart from Rooney, but thats the beauty of youth ... Death or Glory
And lets face it ... England love being losers ..We love sulking and whinging about lousy decisions.
-
Well, at least everyone's got the St. George flags out of my face now. And limited edition packaged pop is reduced to clear the shelves.
Oh yes, I love football. Ha ha ha! :-D

Well, you missed the point.....again.
I was trying to convey the idea of expectance of some ribbing from Kenny. If you knew about the relationship between Scots and the English, particularly where football is involved, you'd perhaps see what I mean. It was meant to be a bit of fun.
If you really don't like football, why post on this thread anyway? It'd be like turning up to a Star Trek convention and standing at the back shouting, "Star Trek is crap!"

Yep. There'll be celebrations in the olive groves!
Perhaps people will treat themselves to a new donkey to commemorate the win. I hear you guys can get running water as well these days.....
;-)
Oh, am I generalising? Stereotyping? Silly isn't it...

Yeah, that must be where I said "I wish Portugal success in Euro2004". Arrogant aren't I?

:nervous: they might be well trained in that Vulcan "grab-in-the-neck-and-your-enemy-falls-down-instantly-unconcious"
or they're wielding with experience a real sharp Klingon bat'leth replica.

I didn't watch the game, but I saw from half way through extra time and missed the controversial non-goal (do you think they'll hype this up like the goal that wasn't a goal during a certain world cup?), is there any vids of it on the net so I can see all the fuss for myself.
Oh yeah, being Scottish, I was laughing when Becks sent the ball into orbit from his penalty, and it was really cheeky for the Portugal keeper to go up for that last penalty :-P
-
It wasn't targeted at you really, even because you've said 'I wish Portugal success in Euro2004' ;-)
I was targeting mainly at tabloids over UK or at the ones saying 'Help! Help! We've been robbed!'

Yes but you replied to me. And I was the one admitting that there was contact.
Oh well!
-
Sometimes when you write, you just go with the flow...
-
Sweden also had to go this cruel way after such a terrific performance.
-
Well f**k it, spent 10 minutes writing on what i thought of the game and other games so far but to loose it clicking side mouse button intead of left. bloody alcohol!
summary:
England out, whoopy!
England was robbed, the goalie was not fouled.
Becks free kick should have been retaken, ball moved on run up
Refs have been terrible in the majority of games, complete shambles, except the bald genius of course
yada yada
Czech to win, my fav team of the comp
-
Netherlands won again, or so what I've heard.
Dunno against who, not really interested
-edit- I do know now, twas Sweden, and if it wasn't for Robben (the Groninger, of course), they wouldn't have made it to the semi-finals
-
You would think that with the technology available today they could have an independent video panel to check just these sort of problems.
They could be linked to the Ref via one of those bluetooth earphones.
Would certainly cut down on these sort of incidents.
-
"England was robbed, the goalie was not fouled."
Go read the rules, it cannot be touched in the penalty area, *any* touch, confrontational or not, the Goal Keeper is king in his area... and he has been touched, it's that simple, anyhow the best team go on...
-
So every time the goalkeeper thinks that he might concede a goal, he just has to stand somewhere where an opposing player will touch him?
That's a great defensive tactic!
-

With naive players it seems to work... ;-)
And it's not like if it was I who made the rules, they are as they were set, and until otherwise... they rule!
-

I think he was clearly interferred with. I think he could have had that ball if it he wasn't otherwise.
- Mike

Are there any downloadable vids of the incident? I still haven't seen it, and I don't fancy watching UK (but really ENGLISH) tv to see it. :-P

The point I was trying to make, wasn't that, "Oh I'm so bitter, we was robbed" but that in a contact sport, being 'touched' shouldn't be an offence. Pushed, elbowed, etc, yes. But being touched?
As an aside, i.e. not thinking of Euro championships now.
People go down far too easy in football. I mean, have you ever watched Italian football? Someone breathes and they fall over. Like I say, football is meant to be a contact sport. Not a load of people mincing around falling over.
[Like I say, I'm talking in general - I don't care what team they play for, they shouldn't just fall over, before anyone says "What about X English player that fell over in 1978"]
-
Well... there's ought to be some reason why the *goal keeper* can't be touched in the little area... and set as a rule is equal to anyone, but anyhow bring the Dutch and we'll eat them alive! ;-)
-
yeah, right.
with a well bribed umpire that is :-P
-
these are serious alegations, can you prove them!?
This is clearly an non-situation (http://pwp.netcabo.pt/joaomgcd/notgoal.gif) :-P
-
Congrats with your victory Portugese, you deserved it :-)
-
BWAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
:roflmao:
Heh, that game was fun :-D. Owned...completely :-).
-
Nice to see that Britain's gutter press are taking England's defeat better than usual (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3853533.stm) this year.
And Henman out of Wimbledon again, too! How does Britain show its racial superiority now? We need another war!
-
His house was tracked down by reporters from England's largest-circulation tabloid, the Sun, who planted an English flag outside it.
British MPs have also tabled a motion in the House of Commons criticising the quality of refereeing in the tournament, the Press Association news agency reported.
This is the main reason why I hate this f****** country! :-x :-x :-x
-
The press in this country are unbelievable. They have always been like a pack of rabid dogs though...
They rarely suprise me though, not even when the Mirror published lists of known paedophiles, resulting in innocent people receving death threats or being driven from their homes in some kind of angry villagers with pitchforks and burning torches situation, all because the Mirror had made a few errors, ot the paedophiles had moved. Its the press that stirred up the people.
If the press had said the ref's decision was questionable, fair enough, but allegations of foul play get people incensed. The press should be more responsible than that!
What does worry me is that MPs are talking about refereeing decisions. WTF?
Maybe we should ask Beckham what he thinks of the recent constitutional changes, or proposed changes, such as the abolition of the post of Lord Chancellor, one that has been in existence for about 800 years....?
