How do you get ADSL to work through the network on to the amiga with start-lan started

I'm not sure what you mean, but...

If you're using a hardware router, it's the router that connects to the DSL. If you're using the PC as a router, it's the PC that connects to the DSL.

Either way, your Amiga will connect to the router using DHCP or a static IP. Setting this up is pretty easy and doesn't need any special software - just Miami.

Yes,

On your LAN your linux firewall has a certain IP address. This IP address has to be the gateway (or router) for all the other machines on this LAN.
For configuring the linux firewall you should have a look at the Linux IP Masquerade HOWTO (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO/)
