Title: Replacing A3000 PSU
Post by: Holley on June 20, 2004, 12:05:13 AM
We're getting Mini-ATX PCs at work at the mo, and their PSUs /look/ small enough to go in an A3000D (they're rated at 300W, inboard fan, and they even look like the original from the outside).

My old one is working fine, but I'd like to make up a replacement just in case - got an ATX wiring diagram, but has anyone got the pinouts for the A3000?

(guess I should go measure one before I get too carried away!)

Not too tough of a job.  Just put an atx powersupply on my A4000.  The tricky part is the way the atx power supply gets powered up.  If you look at the power supply leads, there is a green wire.  That one has to be set to ground in order for the atx power supply to actually turn on.  You can put it to an on/off switch to turn you 3000 on and off, or just solder them together and use the powersupply switch.

As to the other pin outs, just look at the ATX wiring diagram and match them up with the pinouts from the A3000 plug.  I used and voltmeter to check my voltages on both sides.

Pin outs here. http://www.l8r.net/technical/t-amigapowerpins.shtml

or here: http://www.hardwarebook.net/connector/power/amiga3000power.html

And last, here is some info on the "tick" signal of the A3000 power supply and how to get around the problem.

This is what I did, but it's an "at your own risk" operation.

If you need another Real PSU for an A3000D let met know. I have an original case with one still in it and another new one still in the box it came in.

I'd like to buy that new one off you and maybe even the one in the case.

I have two dead 3000s that need PSUs.

I bought an upgrade from Softhut years ago, but damn if it didn't look as thought they just printed me an invoice, stuck it back into the bos and sent it back to me without changing a dang thing.  So it went months later.  This was years ago.

I'd like to get mine back up and running.  Can you plaese email me the details at alex@ShareTheFunk.com

Thanks Dege - the last link is great (though I'm NEVER cutting up my nice A3K case!).

Acill - Thanks for the offer, but I'm going to go with the ATX - mostly with cards and wot-not I recon I'm now getting up on the limits of the stock one (and will be all over it if I can find a 'serious' accellerator ... for reasonable cash).  Sounds like you got a buyer already ;-)
