Title: Cybervision64
Post by: Morley on June 18, 2004, 08:59:23 PM
Has anyone got a PDF version of the original manual for the Cybervision64 (not 3d version!)or can tell me where to get one? I did a quick google and found nada!

I'm trying to set the jumpers on the board, I need to set JP1 to buster v.11 mode, but the jumpers on the board aren't marked.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, those were for the 3d version only. But nevermind, I got the needed page from framiga.
Thanks anyway :-)

Hi Morley

have you noticed a speed gain with the new setting?

Here not noticeable gain.

. . . and if you are under P96, can you check with P96Speed, the "RectFill() Pattern" test at 640x480 at 8bit?

Here i have a very slooow speed (better on CGX).

Ciao

I noticed a big change in speed over the standard ECS chips
on my A3k, especially when using IBrowse.
GFX are much faster with CV64.

I was speaking about using CV64 with Buster9 or 11 . .  . eh!

@framiga

Haven't done any speed-tests yet, but it sure is faster than AGA! But I only have a stock C=3640, so it is not as fast as it could be I guess :-(

I've got a 3640 and CV64 too (and a Buster rev. 11), it's ok in 256 colours at 800x600 and a 16 colour backdrop - any more seems to make it lethargic (doesn't crash on any settings).  Is this typical?  I've been putting it down to the speed of the memory ...

Oh yeah, I've still got CGX3, dating from the days when P96 was slow on CV cards - is the current version of P96 better now? (don't really want to get CGX4)

I've also lost my manual (and box :-(), when I find it I'll scan the lot and convert into PDF, promise ;-)

Picasso works fine for me, the only reason I installed it was because I'm used to it from Winuae. Maybe I'll test CGX some day, maybe not...I don't have the original disks or manual, but I guess CGX3 is only works on CV cards so it is free anyway.

Any of you guys now a good pic-viewer? Viewtek and fastview only gives messy gfx, and multiview is to slow..I want a program I can force into only using GFXcard modes, and which is ideal for browsing through loads of pictures. (Just like good ol' fastview...)

I haven't upgraded any of the chips in my A3k.
(all standard A3000 chips). When I first installed
my CV64 card I had a A3640 card, thats all and I found
it much faster with either CV64 drivers or Picasso96
drivers. They seemed about the same.

Hi all

i've used P96 with CV64 (4MB model) for a life and it is the best choise for this card IMHO.

Now i've switched to CGX4.3 due an upgrade to the CVPPC (not installed yet) and in some operation, CGX "seems" faster but less "system friendly".

For the viewer, i use CyberWindow, Cyberview and even MysicView for 68K and ShowPPC or ppc datatypes for PPC.

All the above with Both RTG system.

Only CyberAnim, works a lot better if used with CGX.

Ciao

As framiga said, mysticview as a viewer. It's excellent.

From my personal experience with my cv64 card, cgx is the best choice regarding speed. I'm running P96 now, though, after having tried to make cgx work properly for about a day last time I reinstalled.
Whatever P96-lovers tell you, once you've had your superlayers, being without them just feels...empty (oh, and slow :)).

Sincerely,

-Kenneth Straarup.

Hi elendil

it is a little bit difficult for me, to give an "absolute" feedback about the 2 RTGs systems because, i've just upgraded from a 040 to a PPC+060.

When (for a life) i had the 040, P96 was the best choise for the CV64 (CGX was terrible slow with MagicMenu and WB background fill).

Now with the 060, all seems better with CGX 4.3 but, as already said, is even a taste issue.

Ciao

BTW- anyway i HATE the sloooow WB fill BKG pattern of CGX

I hope with CVPPC will be better :-)

Like I said I've been sticking with 16 colour backdrops ;-)

BTW I do have the original disks (somewhere), it's just CGX3 on 2 floppies and behaves the same as the copy included in OS3.5 & 3.9 CDs.  Worked right off last time, but I recon I'll go with P96 and see how I do (just won't be able to use my vintage fern fractal blanker).
