Title: Wiring Hardware Reset Switch To An Amiga 1200
Post by: Nick2K4 on June 16, 2004, 01:18:02 PM
Hi,

I've just finished wiring the LED's and the power switch to the front of my case to control my Amiga and I have a reset switch that's not being used  :-(

I was wobdering if it's possible to wire up the reset switch so that when I press it, it will reset the Amiga 1200. I'm sure I've heard / seen it's possible but I've been searching and can't find any good guides.

Does anybody know how to do it? Preferably with pictures please   :-D or know where I might be able to look to find the answer?

Thanks a lot!

I've seen a few threads here on that exact topic. I also think you can find a few how to guides on Aminet. Just do a search and take a look what you get back.

@NIck2K4

The correct site to do it is the TP1 connector un the very 1200 mainboard.

Just near the PCMCIA connector, you will see two marked connector on the board, labeled as TP1 and TP2.
They are marked on the board, but no connector is soldered onto it.

In the TP1 connector, the 2 leftmost contacs (the nearest to the pcmicia) are the reset contacs.

Just solder a jumper to them, and later, connect your towers reset switch to it.

You have just done a hard reset switch to the 1200 main mobbo.

Any Questions?

As they say pictures speak a thousand words, could you please take a look at this to see I've got it right :-) thanks:

I assume you can wire them to the switch in any way and if I were to test this by touching them with a bit of wire I assume the amiga would reset too. I want to check it before I go ahead and solder them for real.

Thanks a lot

I did it the easy way.  When I used to have my A1200T (sold it to a friend), I was looking for a PCMCIA hardware reset fix so I could use my ApNET Ethernet card in it.  Power Computing sells such a device.  As an added bonus, it also has a reset connector built onto it.  Look here at this URL -> http://www.powerc.com/cgi-bin/psearch.cgi?code=655-0009&rn=375&cid=4&act=gpage (http://www.powerc.com/cgi-bin/psearch.cgi?code=655-0009&rn=375&cid=4&act=gpage)

In the little picture they provide, the reset connected is the two pins on the lower-left.  Installation is simple ... it just pushes on over the top of the Gayle chip on the motherboard.  No soldering required.

Ahh right I saw that and was so close to buying it but then I would need the right angle adapter and so it would amount to about £35 just to enable me to have a hardware reset switch lol.  :-o

If this solder method works just as well then I think I'll just use that. Unless of course I get into the Amiga a lot more and need to buy that reset fix thing anyway then I'll de-solder the wires and use that method instead.

Thanks guys, going to be trying it tonight, my system is 80% finished now just got to wait on some parts I've ordered to get here  :-D

It works very well in deed... I've done it to 3 A1200 and it works like a charm... even use in parallel with the keylock on my tower to lock the computer in constant reset mode... not as good as a pause lock but that requier a 68000-68030CPU so not possible with my BPPC040.

I bought one of those and it never worked.  If someone wants it (for the reset switch, I don't think the hack for the PCMCIA reset works) pay me postage and it's yours.
