Title: How is everyone?
Post by: Cyberus on June 12, 2004, 11:24:15 AM
Argg! A load of keys have stopped working on my k'bd!!!

That's better, a quick thump with the end of my fist sorted that one out - I didn't fancy copying and pasting m,y,n and some other letters that had stopped working!! :-(

It's been a while - so how has everyone been?
Any new developments? What has been the topic of the month in Talk-About? Gun-control, Reagan's death, European elections, Iraq? I've been missing my daily dose of the DMZ!

I've been working on a building site these last two weeks, and before that I was doing office work. Hence the lack of time I've been on AO. Building work has been really refreshing! Not used to the environment at all, and as I am 'a bit posh', I thought I wouldn't last a second on the site, lol.

Lugging things around all day is knackering, and really gives you an appetite. And the work can be quite fulfilling.   My misgivings about working on a site turned out to be completely misplaced - everyone's really friendly, although there can be a lot of foul language flying about, and people will take the p!ss out of each other - you just have to give as good as you get.

The best part of the job is the fact that, even though I get up at 6 every morning for an 8 o' clock start, I rarely finish later than two (and get paid for a full day) - this week I finished at 10.30am twice - got paid for a full day, and yesterday we got to the site at 8.50 [50 mins late] - were on the site for ten mins, realised that none of the stuff we had asked for had turned up, so went home and got paid a half day. I love this job! I must be quite unique inasmuch as I have two physics degrees and am a qualified EFL instructor, but I do a manual job - but I am happy!!!

Tell me about anything cool or not so cool that has happened to you recently...

Regards,
Cyberus
:-)

I did construction for a while, I was surprised I liked it too. Not so much so that I did it very long mind you, but it did lead me to become a contractor for a while, and I met a lot of people who later on became sucessfull contractors, one who recently died in an airplane accident in Raleigh, and one who's currently running for county commissioner in my district who promises me that if he's elected, my zoning problems I've had with the town are over

It's nice to have friends ;-)

I appear to have been promoted... I was having a really bad day yesterday, and then I was called into the Chief Exec's office and told that I'm being moved up to a new role...

I 4-pointed my last semester of school(That's the best one can do here).  Taking the summer off, and just working, trying to get some money together for a new synthesizer.

Oh yeah, and I came back too.

I've been given one LARGE summer assignment by one of my professors which is to take the Dichterliebe, which is a cycle of songs composed by Schumann, set to text by Heinrich Heine, make a complete harmonic analysis of all 16 songs, and then write a paper explaining how the chords that Schumann chose, and the harmonic motion of each piece represents it's text.  Things like, WHY is this line being sung over an a-minor chord, and what does that do to the meaning of the words, that sort of thing.  Interesting assignment, and sort of fun, assuming I analyze the music properly first.

Hum,

If you`ve got XP then you can just type (?) OSK at  the run command, and an on screen keyboard will appear...

Very similar to the amiga commodity version...(if i remember correctly)

Cool?

Spending a week in North West Wales mountain biking.  Fan-bloody-tastic!  Word of advice:  The Marin trail at Betws Y Coed is much better than the MBR at Coed Y Brenin, it's faster, more scenic and the downhill sections rock!

Not Cool?

Coming back to work today.  Motivation is running on empty and I want to be back on the trails...

I really want to get a Kurzweil K2500 or K2600.
Financial availability will determine for me.

I've got a long history on K200's and 2500's so since I've finally managed to get over the initial 5-year learning hump, I'm looking forward to getting one of my own.  I've got a K2000 that I use for some basic stuff, but I really could use some newer hardware.
