ive upgraded my winUAE and now i cant get the mouse pointer to move on the emulation screen! has this happened to anyone else?
-
it also has happened to me! Unusually, my brother does not have a problem with his copy of the newer version of WinUAE. Could it be our video cards? I have an ATi 9000 Pro 64Mb.

I doubt it's the video cards. :-)
I have a serial mouse if that's of any help.
I can't seem to find any docs on the problem.
I wonder if anybody knows what the newest version of UAE to use to avoid this problem?

@iamamaboringperson
Does that mean that the British in 1939 were pro-nazi? I think not.

Go Professional!

Try switching to "Compatibility Mode" on the Input tab in the WinUAE config screen. I'm not using my PC at the moment so I don't know exactly what it's called, but I think that's it. I had some trouble with the mouse not working properly before because it was using that different configuration where you can specify what axes of the controller do what and so on... Hope this helps! =D

maybe using a real amiga would help ? :)
(maybe its just saying... damn you..use a real amiga :) )
anyway if it doesnt move on a real amiga, then your CIA chips is broken :)
for emu's ..and winuae...have no idea..

This is a usual problem with non-standard (e.g. non-PS/2) mice and DirectX.
Get the latest drivers for your mouse to work with DirectX.

OFF-TOPIC:

Sounds like a good possibility, but "non-standard???"
I know what you mean, but I can't resist correcting you here.
What is he using a mouse systems optical mouse from the eighties??? ( You know the one's that had to be used with a special mirrored mouse pad)
M$ Serial mouse protocol has been around a lot longer than the several PS/2 protocols out there, and is much closer to having a 'standard' than the PS/2 port. Regardless, technically speaking there is no standard mouse protocol in existence. My company tried to get one instantiated, had Logitech and Kensington on board too, but couldn't get M$ to bother.

To iamaboringperson:
Why don't you just use a REAL Amiga computer? You can buy a nice Amiga 2000HD from eBay for less then $100.00. The ONLY emulator that I have seen, that works FLAWLESSLY, both video and sound at full speed, is ZSNES- The Super Nintendo emulator for the PC. You can even use SNES controllers plugged into the PCs printer port (using a special adapter). ALL other emulators that I have seen SUCKS! So this is why I tell you, if you want to run Amiga software, get yourself a real Amiga computer. :-D

WinUAE runs very well for me, with sound and video at full speed and then some.

I believe Ima does have a real amiga, an A4000, if I'm not mistaken.
I have 3 amigas myself (one of which is not working) and I still have winuae, which is an ideal tool for testing the software I'm working on.
No matter how big a bug I manage whilst half asleep coding, the worst that can happen is I screw up a hard disk file... Simply restore it from a backup.
It also allows me to test the code on different versions of the OS with a few clicks of the mouse.
I dunno about as a substitute for the real thing but do I rate winuae as an indispensable developer tool!

Using a real amiga does not work.
I have seen ppl try to make amiga things work on an amiga, and they always fail.
The flawless solution is to:
1. Power up an 86 bit machine.
2. Load in linux.
3. Start Lindows.
4. Run WinUae inside Lindows.
5. Load Workbench inside WinUae
Then it will work.
If you wanna play any games,
just use WHDload inside your LindowsWinUaeWorkbench.
-Don't- take any shortcuts.
If you do, it won't work properly.
Follow the steps and you won't get any problems.
Don't listen to the propaganda.
Using a real amiga does not work.

Is the 'enable broken CIA' option enabled?
(It`s next to the 'leaky battery' checkbox, opposite 'misaligned floppy head') ;-)
