Title: Whatever happened to GURU?
Post by: gizz72 on June 09, 2004, 07:56:10 AM
Greetings,
Just a trivial question. Whenever my Amiga Crash I always see 'Software Error...' instead of the classic 'Guru Meditation'? Why did the engineers decided to change it? I always thought 'Guru Meditation' had a nice ring to it then?
Good day to all Amigans! :-D

It was way back in the C= days. I know my A1200 with 3.0 has software errors rather than guru meditations. I remember thinking it was stupid that they changed it. Wasn't it because the C= higher-ups forced the change because they wanted Amiga's to be more serious/business like?

It was indeed killed off by Commodore in OS 2.0 (Only OS's 1.0 to 1.3 have a real Guru Meditation message).

Apparently lots of other hidden messages were killed off by Commodore for the release of 2.0, and all subsequent OS's had none.

I think there are still hidden messges even after 1.3 up till 3.9. Bummer! I forgot the web link of those hidden messages.
 :-(

Anyway, I'm not sure on Emulated Amigas how in the world would they bring it out though. And AOS4.0 as well?

 :-?

Good day to all Amigans! :-D

I think the guru is now called "The Grim Reaper",
Amiga is called KMOS and the kickstart is called UBoot.

Back when I first got my A1000 with KS1.0 it would Guru with a graphic with this guy mediatating. It was cool. I liked that thing. It was gone in 1.2 though.

I can't recreate that, what software were you running?

Are you sure it was not some sort of hacked kickstart disk? As I remember there were quite a lot of modified kickstart-disks one could use instead of the C= one...

@acill
Wow! Really?!? I didn't know it had pictures when it 'GURU' then. The A1000 had IIRC only 256KB? WB1.0 KS1.0 disc? Hmmm now that's trivial! Tell us how's that possible? :-)

Good day to all Amigans! :-D
